Iris Recognition Technology

In IRT is the most accurate and the fastest of all biometric measures that human beings have. The technology, which was invented by Prof. John Daugman, and the patent is solely owned by Iridian Technology, has positioned itself in the forefront of the biometric world in a relatively short period of time. It unique abilities of being able to find one person, out of a large number of people, with extremely high probability, along with the unique features of the Iris itself, makes IRT the ultimate biometric solution.

The Iris is basically the elastic, pigmented, connective tissue that controls the pupil. Its unique random texture pattern results in a unique IrisCodeTM that can be searched in real-time. It is the only internal human organ visible from the outside and is protected by the cornea; this protection keeps the Iris from wearing off by time and maintains its stability over a human being's lifetime. (For a detailed and an in-depth understanding of IRT you can visit the web site of Prof. John Daugman and Iridian Technologies Inc.)

IRT works in three steps:

  • Acquire a fine image (picture) of the Iris using approved Iris cameras.
  • Generate the IrisCodeTM.
  • Search for the generated IrisCodeTM in the stored IrisCodeTM database for a match.
